Give me the ability to turn the page buttons on and off. I like the option of page buttons on both sides of the device, but odds are high each user will use one side most of the time. Accidental page flips could be avoided if you could go into Settings and, for example, tell the Kindle to ignore any presses on the long "Next Page" button on the right hand side. I walked past my neighborhood Barnes & Noble store today and realized I have very few reasons to go into it anymore, except to buy magazines (which are still far too underrepresented on the Kindle store). It would simply be a waste of money to buy a physical book if it's available for less on my Kindle. Talk about being locked into an ecosystem! It's iTunes all over again. Ebook Sales Have Doubled In The Past Year News | (0)
The International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) has a page showing how dramatically ebook sales have increased in the past year. It's not quite a "Kindle effect"--more likely the initial spurt was caused by the Sony Reader, judging by when the spike started. It's a good sign of health, though, for an industry that's hovered in a brain-dead state since its inception. Now we'll have to see how 2008 turns out. According to the IDPF, 1Q results for '08 were at $3.1 million in January, which sounds in line with a slight increase (maybe breaking the $9 million mark?) for this quarter.
