The International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) has a page showing how dramatically ebook sales have increased in the past year. It’s not quite a “Kindle effect”–more likely the initial spurt was caused by the Sony Reader, judging by when the spike started. It’s a good sign of health, though, for an industry that’s hovered in a brain-dead state since its inception.
Now we’ll have to see how 2008 turns out. According to the IDPF, 1Q results for ’08 were at $3.1 million in January, which sounds in line with a slight increase (maybe breaking the $9 million mark?) for this quarter.
