Jonathan Zittrain’s new book, “The Future of the Internet, and How to Stop It” has been made available for free in a variety of formats, including prc, which is Kindle-friendly. Just visit the main download page and click on the PRC e-book version link.
I haven’t read the book yet, but it looks like a provocative take on the possible consequences of current trends in networked devices, platforms, and services. I’m curious to find out whether the Kindle falls into the walled-garden category of networks that he cautions against; it’s certainly a closed ecosystem, yet connects to the Internet with minimal restrictions, most of which are due to hardware limitations.
Here’s an interview with Zittrain at Ars Technica.
